What Others Are Doing

Our success is made possible by the hundreds of people and organizations who have invested in our programs over the years. Below we would like to highlight a few whose outstanding commitment has made a significant impact on S4Si and the lives of our Scholars.

Students for Students International at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, Virginia

S4Si has a sister organization at the University of Virginia, which was started in November 2005. They currently fund 9 scholars in the Zanzibar, Tanzania program and are starting a scholarship program in Ghana in 2010. Click here to learn more about our sister organization.

2008 Senior Class, Hockaday School, Dallas, Texas

As their time in high school was coming to an end, the Hockaday School’s senior class decided to host a dance-a-thon to support S4Si. The theme? Nerds vs. Rockstars. According to Maggie, “The nerds definitely won the dance-off.”

Students raised an average of just $20, but collectively the senior class donated over $3000 to fund our Scholars. In reflecting about why they chose our organization, the students said they identified with the mission of our organization. As students in an all-girl school, they recognize the power of women’s education and empowerment.

Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity, Alpha Lamba Chapter, UNC-Chapel Hill

Since 2005 Delta Sigma Pi, a co-ed business fraternity, has been funding S4Si Scholars to attend the Mombasa Commercial School in Tanzania. It is a natural fit that business students at UNC support and encourage girls with similar career aspirations in Zanzibar. Their consistent support makes it likely that someday soon our Scholars and members of Delta Sigma Pi will work together in the international business arena.

Muslim Students Association, UNC-Chapel Hill

Beginning in 2008, the Muslim Students Association (MSA) designated S4Si as the primary recipient for many of its fundraising efforts. Given that all of our Scholars are Muslim, there is an inherent affinity between our two organizations. In addition to their financial support, MSA facilitates training workshops with S4Si members to foster an understanding of Islam, something which plays a significant role in the communities of our Scholars.

Kappa Delta Sorority, Beta Chi Chapter, UNC-Chapel Hill

Kappa Delta Sorority has been a great friend to S4Si. In the past the sorority has held charity dinners and beginning in 2008 they made the commitment to begin full sponsorship of a Scholars’ high school education. Their support will go a long way to ensuring the future success of our organization.
