Hampton, Nida and I have begun the interview process! It’s pretty scary – we’re interviewing about 50 girls and can only select 8 for the scholarship. I knew this selection would be the most difficult part of the trip for me, although it’s also exciting; we’ve finally begun the process of the main reason for our coming to Zanzibar.

Zanzibar so far
Monday, July 5, 2010 6:06am / Posted by Tanzania DelegationThis is my first time posting on the S4Si blog, so first an introduction. My name is Hampton Neal and I am a rising senior at UNC majoring in Women's Studies and minoring in Social and Economic Justice. I have been involved with S4Si all three of my years at Carolina: I was a member of the Fundraising Committee, then helped lead the same committee the following two years. I am thrilled to be a part of this summer's Tanzanian Delegation Team!
Busy days in Zanzibar!
Wednesday, June 23, 2010 4:02am / Posted by Tanzania DelegationI have now been in Zanzibar for a few days, and I LOVE it! I don’t think I’ve ever been around such incredibly friendly people! Hampton and I have essentially been discovering Stone Town, the part of the island where we live, for the past few days as we wait for returned emails to set up meetings with FAWE and our mentors. Two fantastic people, Star and Cholo, have been huge helps, showing us the cheap places to buy water, introducing us to the main hangouts, and bringing us to the beach to watch the sun set.
Off to Zanzibar!
Wednesday, June 9, 2010 11:30pm / Posted by Tanzania DelegationTomorrow, I'm off to begin my summer adventure as part of S4Si's Zanzibar Delegation! I will be in London for a few days (a stipulation of my travel scholarship), and then 8 weeks in Zanzibar! I have had little chance to travel globally thus far in my life, so 2 months in Tanzania should be quite a thrill, especially considering I will be going with wonderful people as part of an incredible organization.
Reflections
Tuesday, February 16, 2010 3:11pm / Posted by Camryn AndersonThere are some people that have a way of capturing your heart from the moment you meet them. That's what happened this past summer when I met Bahati Haji. Bahati is one of S4Si's newest scholars from Ben Bella Secondary School. What stood out most to me about Bahati was her warm spirit and infectious smile. Of all our new scholars, Bahati might be the poorest, yet she is determined not to let her financial situation stop her from reaching her dreams. Bahati is the youngest 6 children, and the daughter of the farmer.
