Students for Students International is pleased to announce that they will again be sending three delegates to Zanzibar, Tanzania this summer. Camryn Anderson, Anneliese Gegenheimer and Iris Lattimore will be representing the organization during their month-long stay in order to interview and select the young women who will become the next S4Si Scholars.
Anneliese, hailing from Columbus, OH, is a business and Chinese double major. She is a current member of the S4Si Board of Directors—serving as the Director of Finance—and says that previous delegates’ trips are what inspired her to join S4Si, “What attracted me to S4Si from the start was that we sent delegates to Zanzibar to actually interview our scholars. This is so different from other organizations that simply raise money for a cause. We don’t just raise money, we take it to the next step and personally ensure that our girls are receiving the funding they need and make those relationships.” Anneliese’s position on the board has given her a deeper understanding of the inner workings of S4Si, and she is looking forward to meeting current and future Scholars.
Camryn, of Charlottesville, VA, is also a member of the Board of Directors and serves as the Co-Director of Marketing. She is majoring in Advertising in the School of Journalism. Camryn became a member of S4Si in the fall semester of 2008 and says that, “This organization caught my eye because it is composed of a group of individuals here at UNC who value education enough that they work to give students who they have never met the same opportunity that they have had, and are extremely dedicated and passionate about the cause in doing so.” Camryn is joining this group of delegates with the hope that a better understanding of the S4Si work in Tanzania will give her a greater depth of knowledge to work with when marketing this organization both on and off campus next fall, “By traveling to Tanzania, I will become more connected with our cause and therefore be better able to serve the needs of our scholars by being able to more clearly communicate their experience and need to donors.”
A native of Athens, GA, Iris is a member of S4Si and a double major in public policy and communications studies. Iris works with the Scholarship Committee and has a passion for helping others. This passion is what led her to be chosen as a part of this year’s delegation, “I always knew that sometime during my college experience I wanted to go abroad, but I knew that if I committed to going away it would have to be for something I was truly passionate about, not just a trip for the sake of traveling. When I learned about the S4Si delegation I felt like it would be the perfect opportunity to really apply my education policy and communication coursework. I feel strongly about education, and was really enthusiastic about the possibility of impacting education in a global setting.”
Camryn, Anneliese and Iris will be traveling to Zanzibar in May and staying through late June. During their stay they will keep a blog about their experiences. Check the S4Si site later in the semester for more information about their upcoming travels and blog.

S4Si has invested more than $70,000 in education since July 2005.
