S4Si’s mentors: Salha Rajabu, Sophia Ngalapi, Muhaymina Omar

The S4Si Mentorship Program is projected to start in June 2010 to fulfill a need for more in-country support for our scholars and our partnership with FAWE. The objective of the mentor program is to create a better communication channel between the S4Si Executive Board, our scholars, and FAWE so we can better serve our scholars’ needs and ensure that we are providing an outstanding level of support. Our ultimate goal is to support our scholars in the best way possible so that these young women can achieve their ambitions and become leaders in their communities.

Local Zanzibari women who are passionate about women’s education serve as S4Si’s mentors. Their responsibilities are three-fold:

  • Operations: Monitor scholar attendance, scholarship costs, and facilitate regular communication between S4Si and FAWE
  • Scholar Interaction: Meet with scholars monthly individually and in groups, mentor scholars on important issues and future plans, and provide support for using the computer
  • Enrichment: Organize enrichment activities, such as speakers, field trips, writing competitions, and computer classes
